CT High School Basketball Player Suffers Medical Emergency After Game

The Waterbury school confirmed one of their players "needed and received medical attention" at an away game at another school in town.

WATERBURY, CT — A Holy Cross High School boys basketball player suffered a medical emergency after an away game Tuesday at Kennedy High School in Waterbury, according to a school spokesperson.

Todd Santa Maria, the director of communications and marketing for Holy Cross, confirmed in an email to Patch one of the school's basketball players "needed and received medical attention at the away game at Kennedy High School."

Santa Maria declined to comment further as the school does not usually divulge medical information regarding students.

Waterbury police did not immediately respond to a request for further information Thursday.

The Republican American reports the player remained hospitalized as of Wednesday after an apparent cardiac arrest emergency following the game.

Kennedy Principal Robert Johnston told the publication the incident happened just after the game ended in a classroom at the school.

Johnston also confirmed an automated external defibrillator, a device used to help people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, was used, the Republican American reports.
