Man Accused Of Burglarizing Business In Naugatuck: Police

The man was arrested after an extensive investigation, according to police.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Hartford man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a burglary at a laundromat in Naugatuck last month, according to police.

Police responded to a report of a burglary at The Wash Zone, located at 799 New Haven Road, during the early morning hours on Nov. 13.

An alarm company reported a security alert and suspicious activity was seen on surveillance footage, according to police.

Police said responding officers found evidence of forced entry and damage to The Wash Zone and an adjacent vacant storefront.

“A search of the premises was conducted, and no suspects were located at that time,” police wrote in a news release. “Surveillance footage showed suspects forcibly entering The Wash Zone before fleeing the scene.”

Naugatuck detectives identified one suspect as 36-year-old Carlos J. Ortiz of Hartford after an extensive investigation, according to police.

Ortiz was arrested Dec. 23 on a warrant and charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief. He was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

“The Naugatuck Police Department thanks our regional law enforcement partners for their assistance and reminds business owners of the importance of maintaining alarm systems and surveillance equipment,” police wrote.
