DUI Driver Crashes Car Into Business: Naugatuck Police
Significant damage was reported to the building, police said.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Naugatuck man is accused of crashing a vehicle into a local business early Christmas Eve, police said.
Police said in the early morning hours on Sunday, officers responded to 427 Rubber Ave. (Beany's Cleaners), where a vehicle collided with the building, causing significant damage to the building and a crosswalk signal pole, police said. The driver fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, police said.
Upon investigation, officers successfully tracked down the vehicle less than half a mile away at the Horizon Homes apartment complex, police said. The car, registered to Zachary Hummell, 22, of Naugatuck, had damage consistent with the collision's severity, police said.

Zachary was located at his residence, and based on both the evidence and his demeanor, he underwent field sobriety testing, which he did not perform to standard, police said.
"Consequently, Zachary was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence, Evading Responsibility with Property Damage, Failure to Drive in the Proper Lane, and Traveling too Fast for the Conditions," police said in a news release.

Following his arrest, Zachary was released on a $5,000 bond.
