Beloved Longtime Naugatuck Teacher Mourned By School Community
District officials said the beloved former teacher worked at Naugatuck High School for nearly 50 years before his recent retirement.
NAUGATUCK, CT — Naugatuck Public Schools are mourning the loss of George Macary, a beloved former Naugatuck High School teacher who worked for the school for nearly half a century before his recent retirement, the district announced Tuesday.
In a Facebook post, district officials described Macary as a longtime applied education teacher who taught at Naugatuck High School for 49 years.
He retired in 2022, according to the district.

In addition to being "an amazing educator whose legacy continues to inspire," Macary also served as president of the Naugatuck Teachers League during his tenure in the district.
"His dedication, spirit and passion will be greatly missed by all who knew him, worked with him and had the incredible opportunity to be taught by him over the years," district officials wrote on Facebook.

District officials also offered condolences to Macary's family and noted their "thoughts and sympathies are with them."
