Naugatuck Boards Trim 2015-16 Budget By $25K

The school budget is now 1.18 percent higher than the previous 2014-15 budget.

Joint Naugatuck Boards of Mayor and Burgesses and the Board of Education trimmed the upcoming school budget by $25,000 Monday night, bringing the approved school board budget total to $61.68 million, which is 1.18 percent higher than last year’s budget, according to the Republican-American.

The savings was pulled from the school’s legal account because the board was confident those funds wouldn’t be needed with no union contract negotiations taking place in the 2015-16 fiscal year, the Rep-Am reports.

Residents would need to petition and gather signatures from 8 percent of registered voters in order to send the approved total budget of $115.2 million, which is 2 percent higher than last year’s budget, back to referendum, and so far no one has pulled the petition forms from Town Hall, the Rep-Am reports.
