Naugatuck Petitioner Won't Seek Second Referendum

Matt Katra still thinks the budget is too high, but won't pull petitions for a second referendum.

Budget petition organizer Matt Katra, who led a petition drive that forced the first budget proposal to referendum, told the Republican-American he won’t pull petitions in attempt to send the newly approved town budget to a second referendum.

Katra also told the Rep-Am he does think the budget is still too high and that town officials didn’t make enough cuts to satisfy taxpayers requests.

If the budget isn’t forced to referendum via a petition from 8 percent of registered voters, the adopted $115.2 million town and school spending proposal will go into effect, the Rep-Am reports.
