Offers Regarding Old Naugatuck Train Station Property Spark Controversy at Board Meeting

Accusations of playing politics at the meeting were made against Burgess Michael Bronko regarding the property.

Local attorney Carlos Santos and Jim Perzhilla, owner of Spartan II Pizza Restaurant & Lounge in Southington, plan to purchase the historic train station at 195 Water St. together, and will open a new restaurant there, after years of searching for a buyer with the Naugatuck Economic Development Corp.

A possible competing offer from brothers Remzi and Vesul Nasufi, owners of Vinny’s Restaurant and Pizza at 44 Prospect St., was discussed on Monday’s Board of Mayor and Burgesses meeting.

Economic development officials showed the board that a legal contract proposal to purchase the former train station building was never submitted from the Vinny’s owners, according to the Republican-American.

Republican Burgess Michael Bronko said the Nasufi brother’s weren’t given a fair opportunity to present a proposal for their intended purchase, the Rep-Am reports. Bronko also submitted a motion that would rescind the contract offered to Perzhilla and Santos to purchase the property, but that motion was rejected.

Some members of the board felt Bronko’s intentions at the meeting were political, which Bronko denied, the Rep-Am reports.
