Scam Alert: Men Posing As Water Company Workers
An elderly couple in Naugatuck had a large sum of money stolen this past weekend, and police want to prevent anyone else from becoming a victim.

Naugatuck Police say two men posing as water company workers scammed an elderly couple out of a large sum of money this pastΒ weekend.
The incident took place on Saturday, Dec. 28, at around 3 p.m., when one man showed up at their residence.
The victims advised that the man told them the water company had received reports that residents in the area were having problems with their water and that their home was on the list of problem residences, according to police. The man stated that he needed to check the water in the home and offered the victims $50 to allow them to use and check on the home's water.

The victims stated that that the man claimed he only had a $100 bill and asked if they could make change for $50. The victims agreed and let the man into the home, police said. The victims stated that once in the home, the man followed them to a location where they kept cash. TheyΒ made change for the man, but he never gave the $50 to them.

The victims reported that a second man arrived at the home, also claiming to work for the water company, and that both men then led them to their basement. The victims stated that the men kept them busy in the basement while one of the men left the basement area and went back into the residence.
The victims advised that the men left the residence a short time later and upon doing so, they noticed that a large sum of money was missing from the home.
The men were described as follows:
- Suspect 1: White male, approximately 40 years old, 5β-6β tall with average build
- Suspect 2: White male, approximately in hisΒ late 30s, 5β-10β tall with average build
Police said no vehicle description was obtained and neither subject had any water company IDβs or clothing displayed. Naugatuck Police confirmed with Connecticut Water Company that none of their employees responded to the area of this incident for water issues on Saturday.Β
