Waterbury Man Charged In Fatal Pedestrian Hit-And-Run
The accused was on probation at the time of the accident, which killed a 43-year-old woman, according to police.
WATERBURY, CT β A city man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a December hit-and-run accident which killed a pedestrian.
Dion Schontten, 23, of Waterbury, is charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility resulting in death, tampering with physical evidence, and illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension.
The accident happened Dec. 28 around 9:14 p.m. near 410 Reidville Dr.

When police arrived, they saw the victim on the road with visible facial trauma. The victim, Sabrina Starkey, 43, of Waterbury, was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died.
The vehicle and driver had already left the scene when police arrived, according to Sgt. Joseph Morais.

Investigators determined Schontten was the driver and secured a warrant for his arrest, police said. They took him into custody when he arrived for a probation appointment, according to Morais.
Schontten was due to appear in Superior Court in Waterbury today.
