Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday.

NEW CANAAN, CT — If you're like many of your New Canaan neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the New Canaan area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  • The New Canaan Land Trust protects nearly 400 acres of forests, meadows, wetlands, and ponds across 70 owned parcels and easements.
  • The New Canaan Community Foundation serves as New Canaan's local partner for advice, leadership and charitable giving.
  • LiveGirl, Inc. prepares the next generation of diverse, brave female leaders with the skills, community and connections so that all girls may thrive and make a positive impact on the world.
  • New Canaan Nature Center is dedicated to inspiring people of all ages to respect, protect and enjoy the world of nature.
  • New Canaan CARES provides responsive educational programs that support and strengthen parenting skills, positive youth development and healthy lifestyles.
