Annual Fire Hydrant Flushing To Take Place In New Canaan

The New Canaan Fire Department will soon be starting their annual hydrant maintenance and flushing program.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Fire Department will soon be starting their annual hydrant maintenance and flushing program.

In a news release provided by the department, Fire Chief Albe Bassett said annual flushing of the hydrants is necessary to provide better quality water and fire protection.

The flushing removes potential debris in the system that can clog fire pumps, hose lines and nozzles. The department also ensures the hydrant drains so it will not freeze and be inoperable in the cold winter months, Bassett said.
