NEW CANAAN, CT — At their meeting Tuesday, the Board of Selectmen approved the schedule for the 2025 New Canaan Farmers Market, which will run from spring through most of the holiday season.

The board unanimously approved a schedule of April 26 to Dec. 20 for this year's farmers market, held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lumber Yard Lot near the train station.

Market Master Alexis Gazy, who has been running the farmers market for 26 years, noted the seasonal weekly event has grown significantly over the years.

"We started out with about seven vendors," Gazy said during the meeting, "and we're up to about 40 farmers, vendors artisans and non-profits."

She also noted attendance has been steadily growing at the market, which is especially popular with families who have young children.

"I think last year [we saw] pre-COVID normal crowds," Gazy said, "which was really nice."

All three board members agreed residents and visitors from out of town love the farmers market, now in its fifth season at the new Lumber Yard Lot location.

"People take the train, they walk through town...there's a lot of parking," Gazy said. "Not as many horns as there used to be."

Selectman Stephen Karl noted the flow of traffic is much better at the market's current location.

"Cars can get in and out of there," Karl said. "You've got traffic coming up both ways on Elm Street getting in and out, and it's pretty rare where you see a significant backup there."

Karl said the board consistently receives positive feedback from residents noting how much they enjoy the farmers market each year.

"I am constantly told how great it is," Karl said, "and you get over there and the feeling of...it's almost like its own little microcosm. You go in there and there's so many smiling faces and people having fun, and there's occasionally a performer there. It's really a nice event."

The farmers market is held rain or shine at 244 Elm Street in New Canaan.
