Burglars Using Ladders To Gain Access To New Canaan Homes, Police Say
New Canaan police said they are investigating multiple home burglaries. The department offered up several safety tips for residents.
NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Police Department says it is investigating multiple residential burglaries in town, including several incidents in which ladders have been used to gain access to homes.
According to the NCPD, there have been 11 residential burglaries in town so far in 2025, including three in the past two weeks.
"The New Canaan Police Department is actively investigating multiple residential burglaries with the most recent focus on incidents involving ladders to gain access to the residence by forcing entry to second floor master bedroom windows," police said in a Facebook post Tuesday. "Preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect(s) are using ladders that belong to the homeowners or left on site by maintenance workers."

Police offered up tips and reminders to help keep residents safe:
- Activate home alarm systems and security cameras when away from your home.
- Secure all doors and windows and used timed/motion sensor lights.
- Have a trusted individual check on your house if you are away for extended periods.
- Report all suspicious activity to the New Canaan Police Department.
- Sign up for the closed house list or a security assessment by NCPD - free to residents.
