Community Rallies To Support Family Of Beloved New Canaan Movie Theater Employee After Sudden Passing

NEW CANAAN, CT — A fundraiser has been launched to support the family of a beloved mother and New Canaan movie theater employee who died Saturday at the age of 33.

According to a GoFundMe page, Essence Sharie Preyer was a devoted mother of two children "whose infectious positivity, generosity of spirit and selflessness touched countless lives."

Preyer worked at The Playhouse movie theater in New Canaan, where she welcomed every guest with a radiant smile and warmth, according to the page's description.

"Her sudden passing has left family and friends heartbroken, with her children now in the loving care of their aunt," the description reads.

The GoFundMe page was organized by family member Gregory Preyer, a New Canaan resident, to cover funeral expenses and support Preyer's two children.

"The family is profoundly moved by the stories, kindness, and support shared over the past days," the page description reads, "and deeply grateful for the New Canaan community's ability to rally in both joyful and difficult times."

As of Thursday afternoon, the page has raised over $18,000 toward a $24,000 goal after receiving over 100 donations. Those who wish to donate to the GoFundMe page can do so here.
