Cooling Centers Available In New Canaan During Heat Wave

High temperatures are expected to impact the region over the next few days.

NEW CANAAN, CT — With high temperatures expected over the next few days, there are a couple of cooling centers available in New Canaan for residents looking to beat the heat.

The New Canaan Library and the Lapham Community Center are both available as air-conditioned public spaces for residents.

A heat advisory will be in effect for New Canaan from 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, until 9 p.m. on Friday, July 28, according to the National Weather Service.

The hours of operation for the library and community center are as follows:

  • Thursday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lapham Community Center

  • Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Saturday: Closed

"Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning," New Canaan police said on Facebook. "Check on those most impacted by heat, those who are pregnant, infants, children, the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions."
