Driver Faces DWI Charge Following New Canaan Crash

The driver is accused of backing out a driveway and hitting a car that was stopped in traffic.

A driver involved in a two-car crash on Old Stamford Road near the Merritt Parkway Exit 36 ramp is facing several motor vehicle charges including driving while intoxicated.

New Canaan Police said it was about 6:11 p.m. Feb. 19 when they investigated the crash. Police said the operator of the vehicle backed out of a driveway from an Old Stamford Road residence and hit a vehicle that was stopped in traffic for a red light, according to a police report.

Officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s and administered field sobriety tests which they said the driver failed.

The driver, identified as Seth Emond, 46, of South Main Street, Torrington, also submitted to a chemical analysis of his breath which registered a blood alcohol content of .227.

Emond also was charged with operating without a license, unsafe backing and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Emond was released on a $250 bond with a court date Feb. 29.
