The family of a New Canaan woman who died while giving birth to twins was awarded nearly $23 million, according to a new report.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The family of a 38-year-old New Canaan woman who died while giving birth to twins at Stamford Hospital in 2017 was awarded nearly $23 million this week by a jury, The Hour reports.

According to The Hour, the jury's decision found the doctor and Stamford Anesthesiology did not provide Maura Gallagher with "the applicable prevailing professional standard of care," which ultimately caused her death.

A hospital spokesperson offered condolences to the family but expressed disappointment in the verdict, The Hour reports.
