NEW CANAAN, CT — A large crowd of Taylor Swift fans gathered outside a New Canaan restaurant Thursday afternoon after rumors of the singer dining there began to circulate on social media.

Police Lt. Marc DeFelice said in an email the crowd of fans were outside an Elm Street restaurant around 3 p.m. waiting to see if Swift was dining there.

Police responded to the area and dispersed the crowd without incident, DeFelice said.

DeFelice said police could not confirm if Swift was in New Canaan on Thursday, but noted the department never had contact with the mega-popular singer-songwriter.

While police did not confirm which business the crowd was gathered in front of, multiple media reports indicate the pandemonium was spotted outside Elm, a popular New-American restaurant located at 73 Elm Street.

Page Six reports the crowd gathered after a fan account claimed Swift and her rumored new boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, were dining there with Hollywood couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.

According to Page Six, the crowd grew large enough at one point that the restaurant had to lock its backdoor and all delivery orders had to be placed outside as people began wrapping around the building. Neither celebrity was actually spotted entering or leaving the restaurant.

Elm has not confirmed publicly if Swift was dining at the restaurant Thursday, however the restaurant did repost a few Instagram stories about the incident that showed the crowd outside and mentioned Swift.

Patch has reached out to the restaurant but did not receive a reply prior to publication.

Further casting doubt on the situation is the fact that Kelce was pictured at football practice on Thursday, according to the Chiefs' official Instagram account.

Additionally, a People story posted Friday morning reported Swift was spotted having sushi in West Hollywood with close friends and celebrities Selena Gomez and Zoë Kravitz the night prior.

Craziness surrounding Swift is not unique to New Canaan, as the multiple Grammy-winner has made headlines almost nonstop this year, with topics ranging from her incredibly popular concerts selling out to her showing up at multiple recent Chiefs game, including one with Lively, Reynolds and Hugh Jackman among other celebrities.

Her recent concert film, "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," even topped the box office in the United State and Canada this past weekend with $96 million, the largest opening weekend ever for a concert film, according to CNN.
