Fire Breaks Out Between Roof, Ceiling Of New Canaan Home: FD
Officials said crews used water from a neighbor's pool to extinguish the fire, which was hard to access due to a 20-foot ceiling height.
NEW CANAAN, CT — A fire broke out between the ceiling and roof of a New Canaan home Thursday night, according to fire officials.
In a news release, Fire Chief Albe Bassett said a fire involving the roof was reported around 8 p.m. at a Louises Lane home.
The fire, which was burning between the ceiling and roof on the second floor of the home, was difficult to access at first due to a 20-foot ceiling height, according to Bassett.

Firefighters used ladders and long pike poles inside the home to remove the sheetrock on the ceiling and access the fire, then used water from a neighbor's pool to extinguish it, Bassett said.
According to Bassett, multiple crews were rotated into the home to bring the fire under control, which took about two-and-a-half hours.

The occupants of the home were alerted to the fire by a burning smell, as well as their smoke detectors, Bassett said. No injuries were reported.
Norwalk, Wilton, Noroton Heights, Vista, Pound Ridge and South Salem firefighters provided assistance, Bassett said.
The fire is currently under investigation by the town fire marshal, however Bassett noted it was likely caused by a fire in the chimney that produced embers, which then landed on the roof.
"Residents should have their chimney cleaned every year and place ashes in a metal can away from the structure," Bassett said in a news release.
Residents can set up complementary home inspections by calling the New Canaan Fire Marshal's Office at 203-594-3030.
Bassett also urged residents to sign up for Community Connect to provide basic information about their home to assist responding firefighters.
