Heat Advisory Issued For New Canaan, Cooling Centers Open
Town officials said the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for New Canaan, during which cooling centers will be open.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for New Canaan from noon on Friday to 6 p.m. on Saturday, according to town officials.
In a Facebook post Thursday evening, town officials said heat index values are expected to reach up to 98°F.
The New Canaan Library and the Lapham Community Center will be open as cooling centers during the following hours:

Library Hours
- Friday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Sunday: Closed

- Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Saturday: Closed
- Sunday: Closed
Town officials also recommend residents stay safe and follow these tips to prevent heat-related illnesses:
- Stay in air-conditioned indoor locations.
- Never leave children or pets in cars.
- Drink plenty of fluids; avoid alcohol.
- Schedule outdoor activities carefully.
- Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing and sunscreen.
- Pace yourself.
- Take cool showers or baths.
- Check on friends, neighbors, and especially the elderly.
- Follow local news for updates.
- For outdoor work, take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
"Heat stroke is an emergency," town officials said on Facebook. "If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded place and call 911 immediately. Stay cool and take care!"
