Here's Why Robert Was Shouted Out As A New Canaan Star Student
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in New Canaan.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Thomas C. Williams, a scout commissioner who nominated Robert, a New Canaan resident.

How do you know the star local student?
Scout Leader
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Robert inspires other teens to get involved, stay involved, and contribute through local volunteerism. He is an Eagle Scout in Troop 70, and just lead a patrol of younger scouts on their first campout to West Point for the annual Camporee hosting over 6,000 young men and ladies from the scouting program across the U.S. He has worked on over 20 Eagle Projects of other scouts benefiting our town, local charities, land trusts, fire departments, VFW, shelters, food banks and non-profits. He is a kind and friendly teacher to the younger boys entering the program.
In school, Robert works a paid position with New Canaan High School TV broadcasting on public access NCTV79, covering weekly sports games, theater productions, and special events. If something is happening…his team is probably filming it. They cross-pollinate among the groups, and tend to know everyone.
Robert is also active with his Youth Ministry program at the Congregational Church of New Canaan, with weekly meetings and band practice. In addition to multiple seasonal volunteer projects, he has also travelled in the last three years to Boston, MA., Allendale, SC., and San Antonio, TX., with the church mission trips to help others in considerable need. He has worked to frame homes, paint the unpainted, and re-shingle entire roofs! He and his team are the ones with the smiles…whatever the work is.
The future looks bright with young people like Robert and his fellow volunteers working to help strangers in need, improving their local community, and willing to participate without hesitation.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
He is modest. It's never about him.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Robert!
