Man Killed In 4-Car Crash On Merritt Parkway In New Canaan, ID Released: State Police

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Nov. 26 on the Merritt Parkway in New Canaan, according to Connecticut State Police.

NEW CANAAN, CT — An 85-year-old man was killed Tuesday in a four-car crash on the Merritt Parkway in New Canaan, and one other person suffered minor injuries, according to Connecticut State Police.

Police identified the deceased as Frank Brantner of St. Petersburg, Fla.

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. near Exit 37 northbound when a 2015 Lexus 350 RC driven by Brantner struck a 2020 Kia Forte from the rear, police said. The Kia, driven by a 38-year-old Norwalk man, was slowing down in the right lane behind a Ford F-150 pickup just before the crash, police added.

The Kia then struck the pickup truck and a GMC Sierra traveling in the left lane adjacent to the pickup, police said.

Brantner was unresponsive when first responders arrived and he was later pronounced dead at Norwalk Hospital, police said. The driver of the Kia reported minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
