She received her teaching degree from Hunter College. Maxine had many careers which all centered around her love of children. She was a first- and third-grade teacher in New York City, a naturalist at Caumsett State Park in Lloyd Harbor, and a children’s librarian at the Cold Spring Harbor Library.

In her leisure time she loved to read, and tend to her garden. She was also a good tennis player with a mean forehand, a wonderful piano player, and a solid green circle skier. She was a loyal friend who always saw the good in everyone.

Most importantly, she enjoyed being with her husband of 63 years, Harold P. (who predeceased her) and being the most dedicated and loving mother to her two daughters, and Nanny to her five beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by: Julie (Baker) Corroon and her husband Jack of West Hartford and their children Maxwell and Claire; and Laurie (Baker) Stine and her husband, Chip of New Canaan, and their children Carolyn, Chip and Molly.

Although we are heartbroken, and will miss her greatly, her amazing spirit, joy of life, appreciation for books, learning, music, nature, beauty and love of family and friends will fill our hearts with lifelong memories.

Services and internment will be private.
