NEW CANAAN, CT — Exit numbers for New Canaan and other communities along the Merritt Parkway will soon change.
Beginning on Monday, July 28, work will begin to update the exit numbers to a mile-based system from the New York state line to the Wilbur Cross Parkway.
In a Facebook post this week, New Canaan police said the exit numbers are set to be updated "so they are in accordance with the latest federal and state standards and guidelines to match mile markers."

Drivers are being asked to plan ahead and drive carefully as crews complete the project.
According to the CT Department of Transportation, the mile-based system allows for uniformity with other states; helps drivers quickly determine distances to destinations; improves reporting of highway incidents, resulting in better navigation for emergency services; and makes it easier to add future exits without renumbering the entire corridor.
More information on the project, including an interactive map, can be found on the CT DOT website.
