NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan Animal Control reminds residents of the dangers pets face during a heat wave.
The National Weather service has issued a heat advisory for the area, including New Canaan, with daily high temperatures expected to rise into the mid-90s over the next several days.
In an email to Patch, Animal Control Officer Allyson Halm said it is recommended to walk dogs in the early morning and evening hours to avoid the intense heat.

Walks should also be shorter than usual and avoid both running and hot pavement, Halm said.

"Do not leave your pets alone in a car for any length of time," Halm said in an email. "Ensure fresh water is available, and be mindful of thunderstorms for those pets that are sensitive."
