New Canaan Library closed for the day at 2:30 p.m., and it doesn’t plan to open tomorrow. Here’s the announcement:

The Library will close at 2:30 pm today, Monday, January 26 due to winter conditions in and around New Canaan. The Library will be closed all day tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27. Stay tuned to our website for updates.

The New Canaan YMCA will close at 6 p.m. and is making plans to have a generator ready in case people need it if power goes out. Here’s the announcement:
Please see the below status update for Monday, January 26 due to the inclement weather:
-The Y will close at 6:00 PM.
-All adult fitness classes and youth classes are cancelled beginning at 12:00 PM.
-Rainbow Station and Kids Unlimited will be closing at 3:00 PM.
-We will keep you posted regarding the status of the facility for Tuesday, January 27.

Gov. Dannel Malloy has issued a travel ban on roads after 9 p.m. Monday:
Malloy has issued a statewide travel ban beginning at 9 p.m. Monday in anticipation of what will be the heaviest part of the storm. Only emergency and recovery vehicles will be allowed to travel until Malloy lifts the ban.

Post-Storm Support
We have been working with the town and have ordered a generator so that the Y can serve as a resource for the community in the event of power outages following the upcoming storm. In this event, we will open the Y to the community as soon as possible for post-storm support.
We will continue to keep you updated regarding the facility’s status and support services over the next few days.

New Canaan Public Schools are closing early on Monday.
Here’s the New Canaan-specific forecast as of now from the National Weather Service (as of the 8:56 a.m. update; visit the weather service’s New Canaan page for hourly updates):
- Monday: Light snow. High near 26. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. Northeast wind 15 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
- Monday night: Snow with widespread blowing snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 20. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. Blustery, with a northeast wind 21 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 9 to 13 inches possible.
- Tuesday: Snow with widespread blowing snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. High near 22. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. Blustery, with a north wind 21 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 7 to 11 inches possible.
- Tuesday night: Light snow, mainly before 9pm. Low around 14. Wind chill values between zero and 5. Northwest wind 14 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
- Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 26. North wind 10 to 14 mph.
- Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 11.
- Thursday: A chance of light snow after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 28. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Thursday night: Light snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 25. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
- Friday: A chance of light snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 10.
