New Canaan Election Results 2023: Projected Winner For First Selectman
Thousands of New Canaan residents have cast their votes in the 2023 municipal election in a number of key races.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Republican Dionna Carlson is the projected winner on election night in New Canaan's first selectman race, according to unofficial results.
Unofficial results posted to the Connecticut Secretary of State's website Tuesday night project Carlson, a Republican, received 3,738 votes, defeating Democratic challenger Amy Murphy Carroll, a Democrat, who received 3,082 votes.
Carlson and Carroll will both serve on the Board of Selectmen along with Republican Steve Karl, the lone selectman candidate, who received 4,711 votes, according to unofficial results.

Republicans Claudia Weber and Andrew Brooks also ran unopposed for town clerk and town treasurer, respectively. Weber received 4,772 votes while Brooks totaled 4,581 votes, according to unofficial results.
For the Board of Education, Republicans Matt Campbell (3,690), Lara Kelly (3,676) and Matt Wexler (3,518) received more votes than Democrats Brendan Hayes (3,515) and Lauren Connolly Nussbaum (3,457), as well as petitioning candidate Giacomo Landi (1,003), according to unofficial results.

For a two-year term on the same board, Republican Hugo Alves received 3,571 votes while Democrat Joshua Kaye received 3,137 votes, according to unofficial results.
In the Town Council race, the four Republican candidates, Michael Mauro (3,845 votes), Maria Naughton (3,888), Cristina Ross (3,971) and Eric Thunem (4,066), each received more votes than the two Democratic candidates, Jennifer Zonis (3,371) and Janet Leung Fonss (3,350), according to unofficial results.
For the Board of Assessment Appeals, Republicans Kevin McIntosh and Tony Calanca received 3,843 and 3,740 votes respectively, while Democrat John Matz totaled 2,919 votes, according to unofficial results.
