New Canaan Farmers Market To Host 'Zucchini Day' Competition
The event will be held in celebration of National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day (yes, that's real).
NEW CANAAN, CT — In celebration of National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day on Aug. 8, the New Canaan Farmers Market will hold a competition next month to benefit the local food bank.
According to an event page on the market's Facebook page, gardeners with excess zucchini are invited to bring them, and any other food items they wish to donate, to the market Aug. 6.
In addition to helping the food bank, a prize will be given to the largest zucchini. Entries must be submitted by noon that day.

The market also invites those interested to offer post their favorite zucchini recipes, along with a photo and a family story about that recipe, on the New Canaan Farmers Market Facebook page by Aug. 5. Winners will receive a prize and be featured in the market's newsletter.
According to National Today, the uniquely named holiday marks "that time of year when keen gardeners have way too much zucchini on their hands." As the name suggests, those who wish to celebrate are encouraged to sneak some of these vegetables onto their neighbor's porch for them to eat.
