NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan’s annual Family Fireworks celebration in Waveny Park has been postponed to Sunday, July 7 due to inclement weather in the forecast for Saturday, officials announced.

Passes can be purchased at the Parks & Recreation Department in Waveny House through Friday, July 5 at 1:30 p.m., at Stewart’s Market on Elm Street through Friday, July 5, and at Steve Benko Pool on Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, the day of the event, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The Town’s Family Fireworks celebration is funded by the sale of entrance passes and donations,” officials wrote in a post on the town’s website. “Passes are required for residents and their guests – one pass per car, one pass per family walking in. The cost is $35 per pass through July 5 and $40 per pass when purchased Saturday July 6 or Sunday July 7. Non-resident passes are not being sold. Proof of residency is required for all passes.”

All other details of the Family Fireworks Celebration remain unchanged. The event celebrating our country’s independence offers fun for the entire family – gourmet food trucks, picnicking, children’s games, gathering with friends, and a fireworks display that will be recognized as second-to-none. The local band “Mind The Gap” will perform from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the Town Band will play classic, patriotic holiday music from 7:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.

Cars may enter Waveny Park through the South Avenue gate only and must have an entry pass displayed. Pedestrians with an entry pass are invited to enter the park from the High School parking area. Parking is not permitted on roads adjacent to the park.

Prohibited from the park during the Family Fireworks event: dogs, personal drones, grills, candles, personal fireworks, and sparklers.
