New Canaan Man Died After Fall From Manhattan Rooftop: PD

A New Canaan father of three who founded a Darien investment firm was identified as the man who fell from a rooftop bar Wednesday.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Police identified the man who fell to his death from a Manhattan rooftop bar as a New Canaan investor and father of three.

Dale Cheney, 46, fell from Bar 54 at Hyatt Centric Times Square New York on West 45th Street Wednesday evening, according to the New York Post. Detectives are preliminarily investigating the incident as a suspected suicide, police told the Post. Two people at the bar reported that a man jumped from the building.

The rooftop bar’s outdoor space will remain locked at all times and the hotel is working with police, hotel General Manager Tom Blundell said in a statement, according to the Post. It was the second time in four months that someone fell from the hotel bar.

Cheney was found unconscious on the street and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the New Canaan Advertiser. The state’s medical examiner’s official cause and manner of death determination are pending.

He founded T-street Capital in Darien, according to the company’s website. He also worked at Citicorp Venture Capital, Goldman Sachs before founding T-street, according to his LinkedIn page. Cheney is a graduate from Harvard Business School.
