New Canaan PD Participates in "Push-up" Challenge to Call Attention to Veteran's Suicides

From the City of New Canaan:

NEW CANAAN, CT - To raise awareness about United States veterans’ suicides, members of the New Canaan Police Department have accepted a challenge to do 22 push-ups daily for 22 days.

The first day of this challenge will occur on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 2:45 pm in front of the New Canaan Police Department. Members of the public, veterans and First Responders are invited to join us.

The challenge is simple. Do 22 push-ups a day for 22 days, to show veterans that they are appreciated and not alone in their darkest hour. Tragically, an average of 22 U.S. veterans commit suicide daily due to post-traumatic stress disorder. This is a tragedy that needs our attention.

This challenge shows war veterans that they have an army of their own to help empower them.

Many members of our Department are proud veterans.

Like veterans, law enforcement officers are not immune to the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder.

We encourage surrounding Police Departments and First Responders in other towns to accept this challenge.
