New Canaan Police Charge Driver with DWI

The driver was stopped for allegedly having the high beams engaged.

NEW CANAAN, CT - A motorist driving with their vehicle's high beams activated while approaching a New Canaan police car is facing a driving while intoxicated charge.

It was about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when an officer driving in the 1100 block of Smith Ridge Road, saw the oncoming car with the high beams engaged, according to a police report.

When the officer approached the driver, he "detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath," according to the report. The officer conducted field sobriety tests and then arrested the driver on charges of driving while intoxicated and improper use of high beams.

The driver, identified as Elizabeth C. Sfrondrini, 23, of South Ridge Court, Ridgefield, was released after posting a $250 bond. She is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court on March 17.
