Both candidates participated in the summer 2025 recruitment process for police officer with the New Canaan Police Department. They were two of over 100 candidates that submitted eligible applications for employment, according to police.

They both successfully endured an intensive testing and selection process including a written examination, physical agility testing, interview panel, polygraph, psychological evaluation, background investigation, medical testing and police commission interview, police said.

As a sworn officer with a Connecticut certification, Heintz will undergo approximately seven weeks of field training with the New Canaan Police Department before being assigned solo patrol duties as a probationary police officer, according to police.

Rodrigues will begin his recruit training on Oct. 3 at the Connecticut Police Academy's 388th training session in Meriden. The tentative graduation date for that class is during the week of March 30, 2026, according to police.

After completion of the academy, Rodrigues will undergo a minimum of 400 hours of field training with the New Canaan Police Department before being certified as a probationary police officer, police said.
