Police Provide Prevention Tips After Recent Burglaries Reported In New Canaan
Police said a number of burglaries have been reported in town in the past month and offered tips to help residents keep their homes safe.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Police have provided tips to help residents keep their homes safe from burglars following recent burglary reports in New Canaan.
In a Facebook post, police said five residential burglaries have been reported in the past month and a half.
In light of these reports, police provided the following burglary prevention tips:

- Secure all doors and windows, even if leaving for a short time.
- Activate alarm systems, add motion sensors/glass break features.
- Use timed/motion sensor lights inside and outside.
- Install security cameras, and make sure they are active and recording.
- Alert trusted neighbors and friends to check on the house.
- Stop mail delivery and don't make travel plans public.
"We encourage residents to read these burglary prevention tips and contact New Canaan police should you see any suspicious activity around your own or neighboring residences," police said on Facebook.
New Canaan police also offer services to aid residents, such as security assessments of businesses and homes, as well as a "closed house list" where residents can request that officers check on their home while they are away.
