NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan police will again be participating in the 2023-2024 Distracted Driving Grant beginning Oct. 15 through Oct. 31.

In a news release provided by police, Police Lt. Marc DeFelice said the department will step up its efforts to enforce distracted-driving laws during the month of October, which is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

These efforts will take place in partnership with state and local law enforcement, as well as the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

According to New Canaan police, distracted driving crashes are preventable, and driving should be a person's number one priority behind the wheel.

"New Canaan Police Department urges motorists to put their phone down when they get behind the wheel," police said in a news release.
