New Canaan Restaurant To Host 2023 Battle Of The Bands Fundraiser
Gates Restaurant and Bar in New Canaan will kick off 2023 by hosting an event to raise money for Meals on Wheels.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Gates Restaurant and Bar in New Canaan will kick off 2023 by hosting their fourth "Battle of the (cover) Bands" to raise money for Meals on Wheels.
According to a news release provided by Rock Paper Scissors Custom Events, the producer of the event, the "fierce but friendly" competition is sponsored by Karl Chevrolet and hosted by radio presenter Jon Kama.
Each week will feature performances by two bands, after which Kamal will decide who will move to the final based on song choice, energy, talent and crowd screams.

The following schedule was provided by Rock Paper Scissors:
- Saturday, Jan. 7: Vertigo vs. Mind The Gap (8 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.)
- Saturday, Jan. 14: Hawkns vs. Herman & Company (8 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.)
- Saturday, Jan. 21: Out on Bail vs. Captain Obvious Andy (8 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.)
- Saturday, Jan. 28: Alter Ego Band vs. Rock Paper Soul (8 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.)
The four finalists will play against each other for the ticketed final performance Feb. 4 beginning at 8 p.m. After two bands have been eliminated, the two remaining bands must play the same song, after which guest judges will choose the winning band.

Guest judges include renowned author James Frey and Brian Fox from School of Rock in New Canaan. Tickets for the final event are $20 per person and will be available to purchase on the Gates website.
In March 2022, Gates Restaurant Owner Jay Luther presented a $4,000 check to Meals on Wheels, according to Rock Paper Scissors.
