New Canaan Drivers Reminded To Stop For School Buses After 'Multiple Dangerous Incidents'

The district urges drivers to come to a full stop for a bus with its stop sign out after "multiple dangerous incidents" along school routes.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan Public Schools is reminding drivers of the need to come to a full stop for a school bus with its stop sign out following "dangerous incidents" along town school routes.

In a Facebook post earlier this month, district officials said multiple dangerous incidents were recently reported along their school bus routes, including drivers speeding near crosswalks and passing buses with their stop signs out.

These incidents have been especially frequent near Farm Road, according to the district.

"Not only is this illegal," district officials said on Facebook, "but it puts our student's safety at risk and leads to costly traffic tickets and fines."

The district urges anyone driving on the road or on school property to stay alert, follow traffic laws and always stop for school buses.

"Student safety is everyone's responsibility," district officials said on Facebook. "When a school bus has its red stop sign out, it's the law to come to a full stop—no exceptions!"
