New Canaan Teen Faces Alcohol Possession Charge

Police said they saw a 30-pack of beer when they stopped the driver on New Norwalk Road early Sunday.

NEW CANAAN, CT - A New Canaan teen is facing an alcohol possession charge after police stopped the driver for following a vehicle too closely on New Norwalk Road.

When police stopped the driver, the officer “detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from (the driver’s) breath” and observed “in plain view” a 30-pack of Natural Light beer inside the vehicle. The incident occurred about 1:36 a.m. Feb. 28.

Police arrested Thomas Chini, 18, of 910 Smith Ridge Rd., New Canaan, with possession of alcoholic liquor by a minor on any public street or highway. After he refused to take a breath test at police headquarters, he also was charged with refusing to consent to test. He also was ticketed for following too close.

Chini was released after posting $260 bond and is scheduled to appear March 9 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
