New Canaan Wins State Class L Football Championship Saturday
The game came down to the final minutes and a field goal provided the winning margin for New Canaan.
NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Rams defeated the Maloney Spartans by a score of 16-13 Saturday afternoon to win its 13th all-time football state championship, according to the CIAC on Twitter.
New Canaan was the No. 4 seed, while Maloney was the No. 3 seed for the Class L championship.
New Canaan had previously beaten Naugatuck and Cheshire to advance to Saturday's championship game. New Canaan's last championship was in 2016.

New Canaan was down 13-6 in the fourth quarter but the Rams tied it on a touchdown and won it on a field goal with about 2 minutes remaining, the Hartford Courant's Lori Riley reported.
