Obituary: John Strba, 76, Of New Canaan

John Strba, 76, of New Canaan passed away on May 5, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born on November 6, 1947 in Stamford to John & Grace (Dypa) Strba. He is survived by his caring and loving wife Judy Lapolla of 52 years that was always by his side and son Gregg who John loved being with and helping his son at Gregg’s Garden Center. He served in the U.S. Army, worked for the Town of New Canaan in the 1970's and 1980's, loved oldies music, racing, vintage cars, the New York Yankees and the beach.

Always ready to help someone, he had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. John was always so proud to talk about Santa's Spectacular arrival by helicopter that he started and organized many years ago. He loved watching the excitement on the children and adults, but most of all he was a kid at heart! It was his faith that allowed him to live life.

Friends and Family are invited to call on Thursday May 16, 2024 from 9 a.m to 10:30 a.m at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan CT 06840.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday May 16, 2024, at 11 a.m at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry St, New Canaan, CT 06840.

Internment with Military Honors to follow at Lakeview Cemetery, 352 Main St, New Canaan, CT 06840.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in John’s Memory to “We Stand With Christ” campaign for St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

The Strba family is being compassionately cared for by the staff at Hoyt Funeral Home.
