Obituary: Virginia "Ginny" Moreno
Virginia "Ginny" Moreno, lifelong resident of New Canaan, dies at the age of 96.

Virginia L. Moreno, “Ginny”, age 96, a lifelong resident of New Canaan, CT passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Ginny was born in New Canaan on October 25, 1928, the youngest of 4 children to the late Mamie Russo and Joseph Lapolla. After graduating from NCHS she married a fellow New Canaanite, Louis John Moreno, and they raised their daughter Ginger here.During her husband’s nearly 10 years as first selectman, she enjoyed her involvement in the comings and goings around town, and continued to take an interest in town activities following Lou’s passing in 1996. They spent many summers in their beach cottage in Old Saybrook, CT, which she referred to as her hideaway. Her sense of fashion was one of her trademarks and she owned a small boutique on Grove Street for many years then enjoyed styling customers at both the Whitney Shop and Dorothy Mann. Since 2020 Ginny lived at “The Inn” the independent residence of Waveny Lifecare Network where she made many new friends among the residents and especially with the staff who she loved to tease and joke with daily.Survivors include her daughter Ginger Novak and husband Ken of New Canaan, two grandchildren Andrea Turner (Brian) of Wellesley, MA and Brian Saum of Norwalk, CT, and 2 great grandsons, Jack and Chase Turner. She was devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who referred to her as “Booba”, a name she selected for herself. She was a regular at mass at St. Aloysius for decades and continued to take communion with the visiting clergy while living at The Inn. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 13th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan. Immediately following, all are invited to celebrate Ginny’s life by joining the family for a repast at The Inn, 73 Oenoke Ridge Road, New Canaan.
