Paul Simon, Richard Gere's Former New Canaan Home Sold For $10.75 Million: Report

NEW CANAAN, CT — The former New Canaan home of both musician Paul Simon and actor Richard Gere recently sold for $10.75 million, according to a new report.

The New Canaan Advertiser reports the Brockwood Lane property sold last week and represented a $50,000 loss from when the house was sold by Simon and his wife, Edie Brickell, in 2022. The pair first purchased the home for $16.5 million in 2002.

The newest buyer is listed as Brookwood Hills LLC, which is registered to James Hoffman of SBP Homes, a general contracting and real estate development company with a portfolio of 75 houses around the country, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.

In 2019, Town & Country Magazine reported Simon and Brickell's 32-acre estate was on the market for $13.9 million. The Georgian-style home offers a number of luxury features, including a pool framed by walled gardens, five fireplaces a three-car garage and a 2,400-square-foot cottage.

According to Dirt, the home was built in 1938 and offers six bedrooms, eight full bathrooms and three half bathrooms.

Gere was revealed to have purchased the pair's estate in 2022, according to Mansion Global and Dirt. The actor and activist reportedly paid $10.8 million for the New Canaan property.

In August 2023, Gere and his wife, Alejandra, attended a local Planning and Zoning Commission meeting to discuss turning part of the property into a private farm.

The couple attended the meeting in person with David Rucci, a lawyer representing them as applicants and the property's owner, Kensho Trust.

During the meeting, the award-winning actor also expressed his desire to bring goats or chickens to the property at some point in the future, similar to a property he owned in New York.

In April, Gere revealed to Vanity Fair Spain the couple planned to move to Madrid this fall with their two children.

Arguably one of the most acclaimed musical artists of all time, Simon was part of the iconic duo Simon & Garfunkel who produced hit songs such as "Mrs. Robinson," "The Boxer," "The Sound of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

He also found major success as a solo artist, boasting a catalog of hit songs such as "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard," "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" and "You Can Call Me Al."

Gere is best know for his roles in acclaimed films such as "An Officer and a Gentleman," "Pretty Woman," "American Gigolo," "Runaway Bride" and "Chicago," the latter for which he won a Golden Globe Award.
