NEW CANAAN, CT — Police warn residents to beware of people impersonating New Canaan police officers over the phone.

In a Facebook post, police said several residents recently received calls from someone claiming to be an officer informing the residents their "personal identifying information has been compromised."

Police implore residents never to give out personal information over the phone and to verify any of these types of claims with the New Canaan Police Department's headquarters.

"Hang up and call 203-594-3500," police said on Facebook.
