NEW CANAAN, CT — The town has provided information about voting in the Aug. 13, 2024 Republican Primary for the offices of U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative in New Canaan.

The following news release was provided by the town's grant writer and communications associate, Greg Reilly:

A Republican Primary in Connecticut for the offices of U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative will be held August 13, 2024. Only enrolled members of the Republican party may participate. There will be no Democratic Primary.

Eligible voters may choose one of three ways to cast their ballot – by Absentee Ballot beginning July 23; by voting at Town Hall during the seven days of Early Voting; or by voting at the polling places on Primary Day.

Absentee Ballot applications are available from the Town Clerk’s office or online. The Absentee Ballots are available from the Town Clerk’s office.

Seven Days of Early Voting, required by state law, will be available at the Town Hall Registrars Office, as follows:

  • Monday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 8 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 10 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Primary Day Voting will be Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. District 1 votes in the High School gym; Districts 2 and 3 in Saxe Middle School; and Districts 4, 5 and 6 in East School.

Voters must be enrolled in the Republican Party and registered to vote in New Canaan to participate in the primary here. Seventeen-year-olds may register and vote in the Primary if they will have attained the age of 18 by Nov. 5, 2024, Election Day.

The deadline for registering and / or enrolling in a party for the primary is noon on Monday, Aug. 12, 2024 in the office of the Registrar of Voters. Applicants may register or enroll in person, by mail, or by using the State Voter Registration website, https://voterregistration.ct.gov.

This site also allows voters to verify their status, party enrollment, and listed address, and to update any information.

Those not registered, but wishing to use the Early Voting System, may do so if they file their Voter Registration Application and Enrollment in the party by noon on the day before they want to early vote.

The Secretary of State has certified the list of candidates and their order on the Primary Ballot.

  • The Republican candidates for U.S. Senate are Gerry Smith and Matthew M. Corey.
  • Candidates for the 4th Congressional District are Bob MacGuffie, and Michael Goldstein.
