NEW CANAAN, CT — Resurfacing work is currently underway on three New Canaan roads, during which residents are asked to turn off their sprinkler systems, according to the Department of Public Works.
In an update posted to the town website, DPW said they planned to resurface the following roads on both Thursday and Friday: Cedar Lane, Beech Road and Betsy's Lane.

The work was previously scheduled to take place earlier in the week, however it was delayed due to a "mechanical breakdown of the asphalt plant," DPW said.
Residents are asked to turn off their sprinkler systems while work is underway due to the resurfacing process requiring dry pavement.

Any spillover from irrigation systems onto the pavement will delay the process and prevent resurfacing, DPW said.
Local traffic, emergency vehicles and school buses will have access to the area and be allowed through the work zone.
According to DPW, workers will be resurfacing with an asphalt-rubber stress absorbing membrane (SAM), which is a high performance type of chip seal surface treatment that seals and preserves the existing pavement surface.
The process utilizes a crumb rubber modified liquid asphalt and treated stone to create a more durable and versatile surface treatment compared to other treatments, DPW said.
