Update: New Canaan Road Reopens After Hours-Long Closure

A large tree fell overnight, causing wires to fall and the road to close while crews make repairs. The road was closed for over 10 hours.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Part of Smith Ridge Road in New Canaan has reopened after it was closed for several hours Monday so crews could repair damage caused by a downed tree, New Canaan police said.

The road closed between Michigan Road and the New York state line after a large tree fell overnight, causing wires to spew across the road, police said. The stretch is about a mile long.

Police announced the closure on Facebook at 6:19 a.m., and they announced the reopening at 5:13 p.m.
