Senator Bob Kerry and New Canaan Residents to Raise Funds for Veterans

The funds raised will help veterans suffering from PTSD through the use of equine therapy.

From Cathy and Ed Kangas: New Canaan residents Cathy and Ed Kangas have joined with Senator Bob Kerry to raise money for equine therapy for veterans suffering from PTSD. The program is held at Squirrelwood, an equine sanctuary in Montgomery, N.Y. Cathy and Ed will match up to $100,000 for the Squirrelwood initiative that has successfully helped veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq work with a social worker to confront their fears through establishing a connection with a rescue horse. The US Department of Veterans Affairs ha endorsed equine therapy for veterans suffering from PTSD and other mental illnesses.

Cathy Kangas said: “We need to do whatever possible to help returning veterans suffering from PTSD. We are pleased to have the support of Senator Kerrey, a war hero who has dedicated himself to helping other veterans transition back into society.” Contributions can be made at www.squirrelwood.org and are tax deductible.

Through her global beauty company, PRAI Beauty, Cathy Kangas supports many animal welfare organizations and is the recipient of the Compassion in Action Award from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). She is a member of the board of HSUS.
