Teen Injured In Crash Involving Scooter, Sedan In New Canaan: Police

Police said the drivers of both the Vespa scooter and the sedan were taken to a hospital after the two vehicles collided in New Canaan.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Two people were taken to a hospital following a crash involving a Vespa scooter and a sedan Tuesday night in New Canaan, according to police.

In a news release, Deputy Chief Andrew Walsh said the department received a report of a crash on South Avenue near the intersection with the northbound entrance ramp of the Merritt Parkway around 7:30 p.m.

New Canaan fire and emergency medical service crews, Stamford police and Connecticut State Police, as well as the Darien Police Accident Reconstruction Team, were all called to the area to assist, Walsh said.

According to Walsh, preliminary investigation revealed the sedan was in the process of turning left onto the northbound ramp from South Avenue when it collided with the scooter.

The driver of the scooter, a 17-year old Stamford resident, and the driver of the sedan, a Danbury resident, were both taken to Norwalk Hospital by New Canaan EMS, Walsh said.

South Avenue and the Merritt Parkway ramps are both open to traffic as of Wednesday morning, according to Walsh.
