Shortly after the caucus, two former Republican Town Committee Chairs formed the New Canaan GOP Political Action Campaign to support the four caucus winners despite Kimberly Norton gaining ballot access as a Republican Endorsed Candidate after getting 306 signatures of Registered Republicans supporting her bid for re-election. New Canaan GOP Chairman, on record in campaign finance documents filed at New Canaan Town Hall, is Jonathan Cheng, recently resigned Republican Town Commitee Chair, and the Treasurer is Christopher Wilson, former Republican Town Committee Chair.
The RTC nor the local papers published the Caucus vote tallies as reported above and many residents wondered why. Many residents wonder why the local Republican party is not promoting all five Republican candidates that have gained access to the general election ballot in November. Many residents wonder why two former RTC Chairs would shun a fellow republican who has a stellar record of accomplisments and has worked very hard for the party in past years.
Stay tuned, New Canaan as the general electorate decide who will be seated on the Town Council on November 4th. Seven thousand voters showed up in 2024 for the general election- compare that to 311 who attended the Republican caucus. Let's hope that the residents show how democrarcy is alive and well in every small town and that elections matter.
