The Wait is Over -- Gates Restaurant Reopens

The popular New Canaan eatery is back in business after it was sold last year and extensive renovations are completed.

NEW CANAAN, CT - Good news for New Canaan foodies — especially those who pined for a burger and brew at Gates Restaurant.

Gates has reopened and apparently with a warm welcome from an invitation-only crowd this week.

The bar is open and the restaurant will begin serving dinner-only service this weekend, according to The NewCanaanite. The restaurant underwent extensive renovations since it was sold and closed last April. The new owners, New Canaan residents Jay Luther and Paul Tully, eventually plan to open the Forest Street eatery for lunch.

The food blog CTBites reports the new bar area is a refinished crafted metal bar created by local craftsman Chris Curnan. The food menu features artisanal flatbreads and pizzas cooked in a wood-burning oven, wood-fired rotisserie cooked meat and poultry, along with the fabled burgers that patrons enjoyed during the 36-year run of the previous Gates.

The beverage menu includes a wide selection of beer. And live music performances are planned for Saturday nights.
